Arrive in Elsah meet your local guide and Step Back in Time, take a deep breath — the entire village feels like a preserved 19th-century postcard.  With a population of a mere 520 residents Elsah is a very small, close-knit community — part of what gives Elsah its peaceful, timeless charm.

From the village, head up the scenic drive to Principia College. The campus sits high on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, and the views alone are worth the visit.

Touring Principia College is like discovering a fascinating story unfolding page after page The mission of Principia College is to provide a rigorous liberal arts education grounded in the teachings of Christian Science.

Much of the original campus was designed by renowned architect Bernard Maybeck, whose imaginative vision blends Collegiate Gothic elements (think Harry Potter), you will learn about Wooly Mammoth discoveries and visit the Chapel.

We will follow the Great River Road to Alton, with the Mississippi River on one side and stunning bluffs on the other and learn about the Piasa Bird. In Alton we will stop at the charming shop, Persnickety before heading home.

There is no cancellation or refunds for Day Trips. Due to our guest counts and vendor payments, we must secure your space well in advance. If you must cancel, you may transfer your reservation and funds individually to another person (please let us know the new guest's name and information in advance). Thank you for your understanding.
